UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA

ACADEMIC SENATE

Based on the Article 40 of Government Regulation No. 15 of 2017 on the Statute of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, the Academic Senate’s responsibilities include:

  1. Establishing the academic policies of UPI;
  2. Formulating the norms and benchmarks of UPI in academic fields;
  3. Formulating the regulations of academic freedom implementation, freedom of academic pulpit, and science of autonomy;
  4. Giving consideration to the opening and closing of Departments or Study Programs;
  5. Giving consideration to the opening and closing of faculties and institutions;
  6. Setting policies regarding academic achievement assessment, skills, and personality of academic community;
  7. Formulating policies regarding the scientific, educational, and religious life of the campus;
  8. Giving input to the Board of Trustees concerning the eligibility of candidates in the selection and election of rector candidates;
  9. Electing candidates to the Board of Trustees Members from the representatives of community, Academic Senate, and teaching personnel;
  10. Conducting supervision of academic quality at UPI;
  11. Giving input to the Board of Trustees concerning the rector’s performance in academic fields;
  12. Giving inputs to the Rector in establishing the UPI development plans.

In order to improve the performance effectiveness, the Academic Senate classifies the tasks into four commissions and one Academic Senate Committee:

  1. Commission A is responsible for establishing normative policies in the Curriculum Development and Evaluation. It also includes the development of academic policy which consists of the development of education implementation system s, educational implementation and its supporting element, facility and infrastructure policy and education budget and educative institutions as a service and production center. In addition, Commission A is in charge of establishing the systems in education collaboration guidelines, faculty implementation guidelines, postgraduate school, regional campuses, departments, study programs, concentrations, professional and vocational programs, academic freedom, and autonomy of sciences.
  2. Commission B is responsible for establishing normative policies in the fields of human resource development, including formulating university staff regulations, formulating policies of strategic plans, work plans and budgets, training schemes and work achievement assessment, orders of educational, scientific, and religious campus life, and the guidelines for Professor and Emeritus Professor Promotion.
  3. Commission C is responsible for establishing normative policies in the fields of research and developments, including the formulation of research and community service guidelines, organization and management, collaboration with the users of the results of research, developments, and community services.
  4. Commission D is responsible for establishing normative policies in the fields of development of quality standard, control system and quality assurance, including the preparation and development of UPI Academic Quality Standard, UPI Academic Quality Controlling System, and UPI Academic Quality Assurance System.
  5. The Academic Supervision Committee is responsible for undertaking the functions of Academic Senate. This committee is assigned to supervise the implementation of academic policies. In particular, it supervises the academic quality at UPI for and on behalf of the Academic Senate and prepares the material input for the performance of the Rector in the academic field to the Academic Senate.

In addition to those aforementioned main duties, the Academic Senate is also responsible for carrying out various activities in relation to the university academic policy or education in general. Therefore, the Academic Senate in this case builds collaboration with the Board of Trustees, University High Official, the Audit Board, UPI Quality Assurance Unit, and the Academic Senate from other universities.

  4. Director of research and community service center;
  5. Representatives of the Director of UPI Regional Campuses;

Up to this present time, the Academic Senate also actively participates in establishing cooperation and “lesson learn”with academic senates from other universities. The UPI Academic Senate actively participates in the Academic Senate Assembly along with the eleven State Universities-Legal Entities. These State Universities-Legal Entities consist of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Institut Teknologi 10 November (ITS), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Hasanudin (Unhas), dan Universitas Padjajaran (Unpad).
